SANGUEM: Panchayat members of Bhati Village at a special meeting resolved to constitute a new committee on Forest Rights in the first week of February while dissolving the existing committee.
As some of the Forest Committee members have turned into mere spectators and not assisting the villagers or the panchayat it was decided to reconstitute the committee.
Sarpanch Chandrakant Gaonkar disclosed that as there were no villagers at the gram sabha, the panchayat members had a special meeting to take the above decision.
He further informed that villagers whose claim for Forest Rights have already been sanctioned by the deputy collector, are no longer assisting other villagers to get their pending claims resolved.
Bhati panchayat has seven revenue villages namely Tudov, Portem, Potrem, Cumbari, Villiena, Dongor and Naiquinim. Incidentally, most of these revenue villages come under the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary.
“The reconstituted committee will help expedite the pending cases and villagers will get the relief they are waiting for,” said Gaonkar.
