Bhoma locals continue to oppose NH, reiterate demand for bypass road

Take pot shots at Power Minister for making ’contradictory’ statements on issue; say he is confused; ask him to call for a joint press conference

PANJIM: Opposing the expansion of National Highway, the affected residents of Bhoma on Sunday reiterated their demand for a bypass road from the outskirts of the village without ruining the village residential areas.

Interacting with media persons at Bhoma, the villagers slammed Power Minister Sudin alias Ramkrishna Dhavalikar for making “contradictory” statements on the issue.

“Sudin is making different statements and every time he contradicts his earlier statement. One day he says the proposed project will have six lanes, others say it will have a flyover. We don’t know why he is confused. We feel Sudin, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and Priol MLA Govind Gaude should hold a joint press conference and make things clear,” said one villager.

Another villager said, “We are demanding a bypass because we fear that our traditional residential houses, temples will be demolished and our tradition, culture and livelihood will be affected.”

The government in the recently concluded monsoon session of the State Assembly had clarified that the proposed Highway in Bhoma and Corlim Village is on stilts whereby all highway traffic will ply on the elevated portion and underneath portion will act as a service road. The government has rejected the demands of the villagers claiming that a bypass road is not feasible on that stretch. However, the villagers have continued consistently to demand the government to re-work the proposal and consider constructing a bypass road.
