PONDA: Amidst fear that they will lose their houses, temples and village culture, due to proposed expansion plan of national highway (NH), a large number of Bhoma villagers offered gharane (prayers) to their local deities.
Bhomkars believe that the government is adamant on not changing the route and giving in to the people demand for a bypass. They urged the deity that good sense and wisdom prevail on the government.
The locals panicked last month after they were detained by police, while staging a protest and were kept at Mollem till the National Highway Authority of India conducted the survey for valuation of trees under land acquisition for the national highway.
As the authorities are ignoring the demands of the local people, the villagers of Bhoma have once again visited the Nagzarkar Devasthan and also Katmagal Dada at Farmagudi on Sunday and prayed that the government officials make be bestowed with good sense and wisdom in the New Year 2024 and do justice to the locals. There is also a feeling among the people that one minister lost his portfolio as a result of their previous gharane few months ago.
