Bhoma locals oppose road widening, vow to save temples

PONDA: Bhoma locals joined hands to oppose the road widening here to save three historic temples in their village.

Residents feel that the road widening would not only destroy temples but also divide their village heritage.

Historian Prajal Sakha-rdande joined the villagers in their struggle and  inspected the three religious sites and added that there is need to protect age old religious monuments.

Sanjay Naik, another villager who along with others  is fighting to save their village against the proposed widening recalled that that ten years ago, late Chief Manohar Parrikar had scrapped the road widening project after the people called on him and charged the present government was hell bent on destroying their village.

“Even replies to RTI queries on the NHAI expansion are evasive. Mud dumped all over the village is causing  dust pollution. The government is trying to do destructive development without taking the villagers into confidence,” said Naik.

We will not take things lying down, but will not let a stone be touched here, said villagers.
