Bhupper waterfall a favourite hotspot in Gaondogrem

Panchayat resolved to provide seats, washrooms and changing rooms for visitors

CANACONA: Canacona is blessed with waterfalls, which they are a perfect venue for fun and frolic for locals as well as non-locals. Even the ban on liquor consumption at the two famous waterfalls at Bhamonbudho and Bhupper in Gaondogrem has not dampened the spirits of these visitors who come from across the state and from northern Karnataka in jam-packed jeeps and buses.
Picnickers, who visit Gaondogrem during the weekend, use every inch of space in the rivulets to enjoy even by lying in knee-deep water.
A police bus from Indian Reserve Battalion and the local police conduct the nakabandi at the village entry points. They in turn have tough time in whisking each and every vehicle entering the village with liquor wherein even locals are not spared.
The Bhupper waterfall has suddenly turned into a favourite hotspot for the old and the young alike as many throng to this seasonal waterfall to enjoy the water.
When contacted, Gaondogrem deputy Sarpanch Kust Gaonkar informed Herald that the panchayat has resolved to provide facilities such as seats, washrooms and changing rooms for the visitors at both waterfalls. The local body too has decided to charge a fee to take care of the garbage and other issues as these waterfalls are situated in the Western Ghats, a UNESCO world heritage site, which is one of the eight “hottest hotspots” of biological diversity in the world.”
Upset with the liquor ban, the visitors say this hinterland tourism is a blessing for the villages as they can cash on by opening new eateries and other facilities. On the other hand they say if charged then they might avoid visiting these places.
