BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Community Health Centre (CHC) staff led by health officer Dr Medha Salkar on Monday visited the flood-affected Sal and carried out fogging and spraying operations as precautionary measures to prevent the spread of any vector-borne diseases in the area.

Fogging and spraying operations were carried out by the staff namely Rama and Sajjan in the presence of Sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut, panchas and villagers.

It may be recalled that that recent heavy rains affected several areas in Bicholim taluka, especially Sal where several houses got flooded. The residents apprehended the prevailing situation could lead to an epidemic as their septic tanks too got flooded.

ORS packets and tablets were distributed to the locals.

Dr Salkar cautioned that the floods could cause fever, gastroenteritis cases, leptospirosis, malaria and dengue.

In case of fever, the health officials advised the locals to visit the CHC immediately.
