PANJIM: The Panjim police arrested two accused for cheating several persons to the tune of Rs 2.12 crore by allegedly impersonating as staff of an IAS officer and promising favours to people.
Mukesh Naik from Ponda in his complaint lodged at the Panjim Police Station alleged that Samir Dhawaskar and Dinkar Sawant from Sarvan Bicholim under the pretext of providing a contract of an Innova Car at a starred resort in the city and took him for a royal ride.
Naik charged that the alleged accused Dhawaskar took Rs 10.50 lakh from him while Sawant allegedly impersonated himself as a PA to one of the IAS officers.
He also alleged that Dhawaskar took personal documents and additional cash of Rs 5000 to get the contract.
An offence under Section 419, 420 read with 34 IPC and was registered against the accused.
During the investigation, several people appeared at the Panjim Police Station alleging Dhawaskar had cheated them under the pretext of providing government jobs at various departments. The total amount received by the accused Samir Dhawaskar is a whopping Rs 2.12 crore approximately.
The accused persons were evading arrests, however, Panjim Town Police Station with an information apprehended both the accused persons.
