BICHOLIM: Villagers from Amona and Navelim in Bicholim taluka have strongly opposed the expansion project of a mining company, which they alleged will be a polluting unit.
This was in connection with the public hearing in Navelim on January 24, from 10.30 am to 7 pm.
Addressing a press conference in Bicholim, the villagers claimed the expansion project will lead to the devastation of nearly 30 villages situated in that and surrounding areas due to which, the health of around 2 lakhs people will suffer.
They have therefore demanded that the public hearing on this matter be cancelled at any cost as they are against this project.
Former Pale MLA Pratap Gawas and Congress leader Nilkanth Gawas questioned how the Pollution Control Board approved the project.
Khemlo Sawant also pointed out that the project will damage the environment and agricultural produce, including milk production, which he pointed out the government wants increased.
Villagers have organised a special meeting on January 10 at the Vividha hall, Navelim to discuss this issue.
