BICHOLIM: Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit on Tuesday convened a special meeting of the officials of the water resource department and the mining companies to review the preparedness and measures to be taken during the monsoon to avoid any untoward incidents.
During the meeting, the mamletdar asked the WRD and the mining companies to undertake the pumping of excessive water in mining pits to prevent any untoward incident during monsoon season.
The mamletdar also directed the officials to conduct weekly inspection in the mining areas to monitor the situation and report compliance.
The WRD officials informed the mamlatdar that they have made elaborate arrangements for pumping of excessive water from the mining pits to mitigate any chances of disaster in mining areas.
The mamlatdar informed that with the officials of directorate of mines and safety he would conduct a joint inspection of the mining pits within a fortnight to review the preparatory measures undertaken by WRD and mining companies.
Bicholim is considered flood prone area and some years back sludge had entered houses at Pazwada and Mulgao after mining pits were breached due to heavy rains.
