BICHOLIM: The first floor of new Bicholim Market has become a place for migrants’ rendezvous and not only the Bicholim Municipal Council but also the police have ignored it, say shopkeepers. On the first floor some sofas are kept near the staircase, which has become favourite hangout place for the migrants who are seen squatting here.
“At night they are seen sleeping here and even during day time there are some migrants who are seen lazing on the sofas.” a shopkeeper, Rajan Naik said.
“We had written a letter to the municipality but they are least bothered. Earlier at least the police used to come here to monitor the situation but now even they have stopped coming here.” Naik told.
“As it is we are not having customers and with these migrants sitting here the women feel it annoying to come to our shops on the first floor,” said Naik.
As per the shopkeepers these migrants not only sleep here but also urinate on the shutters.
The shopkeepers have suggested that the BMC should install a gate so that the entry is restricted to these people during the night.
