bicholim:  As the rains lash Bicholim and other parts of Goa, the former Bicholim MLA, Naresh Sawal has claimed that  no precautionary measures were put in place in the taluka while the speaker and Bicholim MLA has refuted all the charges.

Last year, several parts of Bicholim were inundated and there was a flood in Sal village after the Tillari waters were released. Water entered several houses and there was a huge loss of property.

“Since the last two years, no measures have been taken to avoid floods in the town and villages of Bicholim. During my tenure as an MLA, I used to take all the precautionary measures after having a meeting with the officials but now, nothing of this sort happen,” Sawal added.

He claimed that even in the town, the gutters have not been properly cleaned by the municipality. “As the gutters were not desilted properly, it led to flood like situation near the Bicholim ground. The nullah that gets water from Lamgao is not desilted since  the last two years and this could lead to disaster in the town area.” Sawal claimed.

Even as the opposition claims that the authorities have not done anything the Bicholim MLA and  Speaker, Rajesh Patnekar said that they have taken all the precautionary measures for the safety of the people.

“Last year for the first time there was floods in Sal village. This year the PWD and the Mamlatdar’s office have been taking reports of the situation at the Tillari dam. We are taking all the precautions towards the safety of the people.” Patnekar added.
