BICHOLIM: The 45-year-old Bicholim Taluka library has been allocated new premises with the BMC allocating its hall even as the members demanded a permanent address.
Established on February 19, 1984, today it has more than 2600 members and is visited by more than 100 people every day from the city. The library was housed in the government primary building at Bicholim and was occupying two rooms of the school.  For a year now, the library has bene trying to find a new location after the existing building was targeted for demolition due to its dilapidated condition.
Herald had earlier highlighted the plight of the library and there were two options given by the Bicholim municipal council to the Art and culture department which is presently looking after the affairs of the library.
“We had given them two option the first one was to shift them to the Town centre building and another was the BMC hall. We are happy that they chose this venue which is centrally located and is accessible to everyone” BMC Chairman, Satish Goankar told.
The working of the library has already begun from the new premises but the readers still feel the government should provide this library with some permanent premises. “We are happy that BMC has given its hall to the library but demand the government find a permanent place for this library which is one of its kind in the taluka” senior citizen and member of the library, Suryakant Desai said.
