Bicholim Taluka villagers aim for stable VPs

BICHOLIM: The 18 village panchayats in Bicholim Taluka witnessed the game of political musical chairs as there were changes in the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch to stunning 58 and 48 times, respectively, in the last five years.

The instability within the governing panchas directly impacts the pace of development and so, the locals have expressed concern to procure some stability in the coming term, wherein the new sarpanch and deputy will be elected on Monday.

“If the authorities come up with a definite five-year plan for next term then attaining the desired development is very much possible,” former Mayem sarpanch Sakharam Pednekar said.

“The panchayats should come forward to contribute to educational projects. The panchas can also come up with training facilities for those who are interested in self-employment opportunities,” opined Tulshidas Parab, another former Mulgao sarpanch.
