MARGAO: Is the Margao Municipal Council serious about the door-to-door garbage collection or is it just another slogan for the council that has been struggling with managing the garbage for years now? This is the question asked by many including one bidder for the door to door garbage collection auction of the council.
As per the tender document floated by the MMC, a pre-bid meeting was to be held between the MMC officials and the bidders for the tender. The meeting was initially fixed for January 12, 2017 which had to be postponed due to the code of conduct coming into force due to the assembly elections.
Subsequently, the meetings scheduled for March 27 and April 7, did not take place.
as the Chief Officer who was to chair the meeting was not present. This is when one of the bidders for the auction wrote letter to the MMC questioning their seriousness of the matter.
The MMC did not bother to reply to that letter but fixed the meeting on April 7. Unfortunately, the meeting did not take place even on Thursday as the chief officer was not present and the meeting is now scheduled for April 17.
According to Chief Officer Y B Tawade, the Municipal Engineer was willing to chair the meeting today however the bidders rejected the offer but conceded that no written authority was given to the Municipal Engineer to chair the meeting and that is exactly the grounds on which the bidders rejected the proposal of the Municipal Engineer chairing the meeting.
