‘Big’ decision on schools today: CM

PANJIM: Though parents have been objecting to restarting of schools, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday said that a decision in this regard will be taken by Tuesday.

Speaking to the media, Sawant said the consultation process with stakeholders has ended and by Tuesday a decision would be finalised.

“I have asked State Education Secretary and Director of Education to hold consultations with stakeholders, including school managements, parent-teacher associations and teachers’ bodies such as the Goa Headmasters’ Association and Goa Principals’ Forum before reaching a decision on restarting of schools,” he said.

The government held consultations with stakeholders in the last week of September, and it was then decided that schools will not reopen immediately from October 15.

Parents in the State have objected to restarting school stating the Chief Minister should convene an Assembly session before reopening schools.

After reopening of casinos and announcing the Sunburn event in Goa, this would be the third major decision if the government decides to reopen schools.
