PANJIM: Against the backdrop of investigations into cases of land grabbing, the North District Magistrate has issued an advisory barring officials from carrying out property-related paperwork of 93 properties in question.
“The District Magistrate, North, in pursuance of the investigation by the Superintendent of Police in the land grabbing cases, has directed the Additional Collectors or Deputy Collectors and SDOs, Mamlatdars and Joint Mamaltdars to take cognizance of the 93 properties identified by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating land grabbing cases and ensure that no mutation, partition and conversion of the said properties be carried out till further instructions of the Government,” the advisory issued on Tuesday stated.
The State government has been keeping a track of the ongoing probe into one of the Goa’s largest land scams, which has also exposed the involvement of some government officials.
In the majority of cases, the conspirators have forged documents to sell the properties of those owners who have either passed away and have no legal heirs, or properties whose owners are residing out of Goa.
Out of several cases transferred from the Mapusa police station, the SIT is also investigating fresh FIRs, while dozens of complaints are under scrutiny for further action.
Four accused, including a kingpin, who were arrested during the investigation are currently on bail, even as some of them have confessed to forging documents of close to 70 properties.
