Big relief: Mangor locals after containment zone de-notified

A special medical camp held to check health status; Medical fitness certificates given to residents

Vasco:  Residents from the Mangor containment zone expressed happiness after the area was de-notified as a containment zone after 70 days and two mini containment zones were announced. 

A special medical camp was held on Monday to check the health status of the people and those willing to resume their duty were given medical fitness certificates. 

Councillor Fredrick Henriques opined it is a big relief for the people. “We are thankful to the district administration and the local MLA, the state government for considering the plight of the people. On Friday a medical camp was organised to assess the health status of the residents who are willing to join their jobs and duties. Health authorities from the Chicalim hospital were given medical fitness certificate to give clarity over their health status,” said Henriques.

Shivkumar a resident from Mangor area said, “for the last two months people from the containment zone suffered on various fronts. There was shortage of essential commodities”. He also asked the authorities to have a humane approach towards the people from the slum areas and requested sufficient and regular essentials be provided to them to avoid any inconvenience.

Reshma Khan another resident of Mangor said, “the de-notification of Mangor containment zone has brought a big relief and joy to the people who had suffered like prisoners for the last two months inside the containment zone”.

She further said that on Monday many people stood in queues to get themselves checked at the medical camp wherein the authorities checked the people and gave them medical fitness certificate. Khan thanked all the people including the govt authorities for de-notifying the containment zone.

Sharada, a lady working in a government department said these two months were like imprisonment. 

Sharada said, “her husband works in the Police department and he was busy in his duty and she could only get a glimpse of him from far”. On the work front, she said she was asked work from home, but now she is happy that she could go to work and complete her pending work. She also said after so many days she will be able to buy some eatables, and prepare something delicious food after almost two months.
