Apparently on October 12 evening, Suresh was driving his Wagon R car under the influence of alcohol and at Navelim junction he apparently brushed against an Apache motorcycle belonging to a person, who was having “ras omelette” at the nearby handcart.
Infuriated that the car driver did not stop, the motorcycle owner and his friend chased the vehicle and stopped it at Sinquetim and after damaging his vehicle began thrashing the driver. A crowd gathered and separated the youth and called the police.
As the two youth fled from the scene, police picked up Suresh and brought him to the police station where he underwent an alcometer test which proved positive. He was sent for medical where it was again established that he was under the influence of alcohol.
As Suresh did not lodge any complaint against the duo who assaulted him, police also did not book any case against them but continued to investigate to identify the two assailants as it was established that assault had taken place.
On October 19, following information on Suresh’s death, police began their hunt to trace the assailants. The duo was arrested October 21 and was remanded to police custody. The duo Pritesh Chauhan from Rumdamol and Vilas Naik from Mandopa have confessed to assaulting Suresh.
