CALANGUTE: A woman from Bihar was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in a rented room in Calangute on Thursday morning. The incident is being alleged as a suicide.
The Calangute Police received a distress call around 9.45 am, reporting the discovery of a deceased woman in a rented room at Dongarpur, Naikwaddo, Calangute. The woman was identified as 34-year-old Sanjana Kumari, a native of Patna, Bihar, working in a beauty parlour in coastal Calangute. She had been residing in the rented room with her boyfriend, 26-year-old Amender Kumar, a Disc Jockey, who is also from Patna.
Eyewitnesses informed the police that the deceased had locked herself inside the room and allegedly committed suicide using a saree. Her boyfriend, Amender Kumar, broke open the door. The body has been shifted to Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
Sanjana had been living with her family at Banastarim, and had moved into the rented flat in Calangute only seven days ago.
The police have taken statements from the parents of the deceased. The father of the deceased revealed that the woman was married, and her husband resides in Patna, their hometown. The deceased also has a 13-year-old daughter out of wedlock, said the police. Arrangements are being made to conduct a post-mortem examination in the presence of the deceased’s husband.
According to a neighbour, the boyfriend, who is also married, had recently arrived to stay with the deceased. They had been having frequent fights since his arrival.
The neighbour said, “On Wednesday, the couple went out at night and returned around 3 am, seemingly in an intoxicated state.”
“They continued drinking and arguing until 5 am. From 6.30 to 7 am, my wife heard knocking on the door. When she opened it, she found the deceased lying on the floor of the common balcony, unclothed. My wife brought her inside, covered her with a blanket, and realised she was heavily intoxicated and unable to move. We then moved her inside,” stated the neighbour.
After some time, when the neighbours and Kumar forced open the door, they discovered the deceased lying on the bed with a saree tightly tied around her neck. Blood was oozing from her mouth and nose, and she had injuries on her forehead and arms, according to the neighbours.
Meanwhile, the Calangute Police have registered a case of unnatural death. “We have registered a case of unnatural death. It’s a suicide as per the neighbours, who are the eyewitnesses of the incident. The deceased lady and her male friend used to have oral arguments over the extramarital affair,” said PI Paresh Naik.
The police stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the post-mortem report.
