MARGAO: The Fatorda police on Thursday apprehended a youth identified as Irfan Shaikh from Bijapur, who allegedly kidnapped a 16-year-old girl from a busy street on Wednesday.
In an operation supervised by PI Nathan de Almeida, the accused was caught with the girl around the Margao railway station, with the help of mobile tracking.
The girl was handed over to her mother after completing all the required formalities and questioning. However, her medical examination is yet to be conducted, said the police.
According to police reports, the girl was kidnapped from a busy location in Salcete and taken on a scooter, which has also been seized by the police.
Following a complaint from the girl’s mother, the Fatorda Police had registered an offence under Section 363 of the IPC for kidnapping. After ascertaining the victim’s age, Section 8 of the Goa Children Act was added to the offence late last night.
The accused will be sent for a medical examination to the Goa Medical College Hospital, Bambolim, after which he will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class for remand, although his statement has already been recorded.
