A bike rider fell into the Mandovi river following a head-on collision with a rent-a-car driven by a tourist on the Mandovi bridge on Thursday evening. The shocking event has prompted extensive search and rescue operations to locate the missing person.
According to information provided by SP North Akshat Kaushal, Fire & Emergency Services, Navy, and Coast Guard units have been mobilized to conduct the search and rescue efforts. A Coast Guard helicopter has conducted sorties over the area, and Navy’s deep-sea divers have been called in for assistance. The primary focus of the operation is to locate the missing individual.
The recovered helmet of the bike rider serves as a piece of evidence in the ongoing rescue mission. The suspected tourist car driver involved in the collision has been detained, having sustained minor injuries. Both vehicles, the bike, and the rent-a-car, have been taken into custody by the police as part of the investigation.
SP Akshat Kaushal mentioned that the detained individual will undergo a medical examination to determine if the incident was a result of drunken driving. The police are fully committed to the ongoing rescue operation, prioritizing the search for the missing bike rider.
