PANJIM: Corporators of the new Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) who will be elected in March, will have to take oath of office, with the State government introducing a Bill in this regard.

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Municipal Administration Francis D’Souza introduced the City of Panaji Corporation (amendment) Bill 2016 on Thursday, so as to make provision for corporators taking oath of office. The polls are due on March 6.
Meanwhile, the minister also introduced the Goa Municipalities (amendment) Bill 2016, granting 27 percent reservation for other backward classes.
The bill will amend Section 42 of the Municipalities Act, so as to make it mandatory for councillors to take oath of office and to prohibit councillors, who do not take such oath, from voting and taking part in the proceedings of council meeting.
