MARGAO: The Chinchinim Deussua Biodiversity Committee along with Chinchinim Deussua Panchayat organized a programme titled “Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Wealth” where the benefits of local fruits and vegetables were discussed.
Noted naturalist and Chairman of Botanical Society of Goa Minguel Braganza spoke on the local vegetables and fruits that used to be consumed earlier and the benefits these local produce gave to the human body.
As the programme was held at the residence of Prof Marcos D’Mello who is the convener of Chinchinim Deussua Village Development Committee who has a rich kitchen garden with many local vegetables and fruit bearing trees growing, the participants could also see what was spoken about.
The organisers had also displayed many of the fruits and vegetables which were also for sale and some people did purchase them. A very interesting exhibition of photographs of butterflies was also arranged.
Complementing the around 150 people present, Deputy Sarpanch Valentino Barretto said going by the response he would try and organize a kitchen garden contest for the villagers through the panchayat.
