PONDA: The frequent sightings of gaurs at Chikangaal-Pajwada, Shiroda, have created fear among the locals.
In the last 10 days, two incidents of bison attacking two-wheeler riders were reported. However, only one incident is reported with the Forest Department.
According to sources, recently, a couple from Margao was travelling to Nirankal via Shiroda, when they stopped at Rankhol for refreshment. After resuming their journey, the rider was attacked by a bison which he mistook for a buffalo. The rider was injured and taken to Shiroda Primary Health Centre and later shifted to GMC, Bambolim for further treatment.
Meanwhile, another youth was struck down by a bison at Pajiwada around three days back from his scooter. Locals have expressed concerns over more severe mishaps happening.
When contacted, Ponda Forest Department official Dipak Tandel said that the panchnama of Margao couple incident has been conducted.
“The information of the incident was received the next day and we had written to Shiroda Primary Health Centre asking for medical examination report. The PHC in their report stated that it was a minor injury. However, the Forest Department has not received any information regarding the incident which took place three days back,” he said.
