BITS Pilani cases up to 38, all asymptomatic

PANJIM: Active COVID-19 cases in BITS Pilani Goa campus have almost doubled with 16 new cases.

All the cases have mild or no symptoms. Four students from the first lot of 24 cases have recovered. Now the total active cases are 38.

“On Friday and Saturday, 22 cases were added to the existing 20 cases. But these cases too are asymptomatic. So it is a matter of only completing the isolation period now,” Arjun Harlankar, the Public Relations Officer of BITS Pilani Goa Campus said.

“When the cases started emerging, online classes were started and physical get-togethers were stopped. Movement of faculty, students and staff has been brought down, as a remedial measure,” he added.

“Now since they are under isolation and under monitoring by the local Primary Health Centre, regular activities are going on,” Harlankar said.

“I don’t think COVID cases will spread anymore. About 117 samples were tested and only 11 tested positive. These were not even secondary contacts. This was done as a precautionary measure. In another three to four days the cases will fall drastically. By April 8 and 9, all affected persons will complete isolation,” Harlankar said.

Asked about the preventive measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID cases, Harlankar said, “For next two weeks no offline classes and no physical get-togethers will be held and this will help in not increasing the numbers.”
