Bitterness cannot solve issues: Parrikar

Says discussions over MoI issue would avoid misunderstanding

PANJIM: Indirectly hitting out on the ongoing infight between the ruling BJP and RSS on the controversial Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday categorically stated that no issues can be settled with “bitterness” but a proper discussion would avoid “misunderstanding” and “conflict of interest”.
“One needs to inculcate the preaching of Lord Mahavir, wherein many issues can be resolved without any bitterness,” Parrikar said.
“Everyone here feels that their side of discussion or their viewpoint is right leading to conflict of interest. We all are Goans here and not rivals of each other. If two sides can understand each other’s point of view, then there won’t be any misunderstanding. No conflict of interest,” Union Defence Minister added.
Parrikar, the former State Chief Minister, said that any critical or controversial issues can be well settled by proper discussion. “There is a need to have proper discussion. Many issues can be resolved by talking,” he commented.
The statements were indirectly hinting at the RSS led Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), which has gone all out against the BJP government, for its policy decision to continue grants to English medium primary schools.
BJP leaders and BBSM protagonists, including RSS chief Subhash Velingkar, are currently in verbal spat over MoI issue, with allegations and counter allegations ruling over.  Sources even confirmed that the issue has been placed before party national president Amit Shah.
State government has decided to go ahead with its existing MoI policy, without making it a legislation.
