BJP accused of treating women as commodity

MARGAO: Congress President Girish Chodankar on Saturday accused the BJP of treating women as a commodity and alleged that their leaders have no respect for the fairer sex.
“The culture of BJP of abusing women has now reached each household of their functionaries, with the sons of their leaders now attacking and threatening young girls,” Girish charged.
“The attack on a young girl in Canacona by the son of a BJP leader exposes the high-handed culture in BJP. The BJP leadership initially tried to protect the accused, but later got him arrested following public pressure,” he claimed.
“The arrest of the accused is just eyewash. We demand strict action against him by filing a charge sheet with strong sections,” said Chodankar.
“We also demand police protection to the victim and her family as local BJP leaders are still threatening them,” he demanded.
It may be recalled that Canacona Police arrested Pratik Govind Naik, 21-year-old resident of Passal-Ardhofond, Canacona on Thursday for outraging the modesty of girl. He was booked for abduction, assault, and threatening the victim of dire consequences.
The accused is the son of a BJP leader from Canacona.
“The BJP government is going slow on the investigation against Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar who had posted a “vulgar” video on social media as they have no respect for women,” Chodankar claimed.
