The Tuesday election for the post of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat will be a mere formality as the Presiding Officer received the lone nomination papers of Navnath and Chitra for the posts of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson respectively.
The BJP leadership cleared the name of Navnath Naik for the post of Chairperson on Monday morning. Navnath had been a strong contender for the post from day one, though the name of former Rumdamol Sarpanch and Davorlim ZP member Ulhas Tuenkar was doing the rounds in political circles.
Sources informed that the 12-member Independent group, preferred not to contest the election, for want of numbers. Many an Independent ZP members informed that they were willing to cooperate in the interest of development of their constituencies.
