PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha on Wednesday burnt the effigy of Congress leader and Punjab State Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for his controversial hug to Pakistan’s army chief during his recent visit to the neighbouring country.
BJP young leaders demanded that Congress should sack Sidhu, whose visit to Pakistan was at a time when the nation was mourning the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Congress minister had visited Pakistan for the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as Prime Minister.
Around 50 workers from BJPYM gathered on the street near Congress party head office and burnt the effigy while shouting slogans.
BJPYM Goa general secretary Gajanan Tilve said that the effigy was burnt to condemn the anti-national act by Sidhu. “This is the same Army Chief who orders killing of our Indian soldiers on the border. How can any patriotic Indian hug him? Sidhu has clearly indicated his anti-national mentality,” Tilve said.
He added that the visit to the swearing-in ceremony of the Pakistan PM when the nation was mourning Vajpayee’s death was Sidhu’s “personal decision”. “But we cannot tolerate his behavior during the ceremony. If Congress has even little patriotism in them, then they should immediately sack him from the post of Punjab minister,” he said.
