The suspense of the BJP candidate for the South Goa constituency is likely to end today (Monday). Discussions have begun regarding Pallavi Dempo’s candidacy during the meeting of the Central Election Committee held in Delhi. However, BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade has stated that deliberations are still ongoing regarding whether the candidate for South Goa will be a woman or a man.
President Sadanand Tanavade stated on Sunday that the selection of the BJP candidate for the South Goa constituency would be determined during the ongoing two-day meetings of the Central Eelection Committee in Delhi. However, Tanavade clarified that no decision has been reached regarding the gender of the candidate, leaving both possibilities open for consideration in this constituency
Following the announcement of elections on Saturday and the release of the BJP’s second list of Lok Sabha candidates, the party is yet to finalize its candidate for South Goa. The Chief Minister emphasized that due tothe insistence of senior Central BJP leaders on fielding a woman candidate for this seat, names of potential female candidates are under review. Accordingly, several names were forwarded to the Central Committee for consideration.
Amidst speculation, questions have arisen regarding the potential nomination of Pallavi Dempo a member of the industrialist Dempo family, for the South Goa seat. When questioned by journalists, Tanavade responded, “No decision has been made as of yet, but a candidate will be chosen during the meeting today (Sunday) or by Monday.” Goa is scheduled to hold Lok Sabha elections on May 7, providing an opportunity for the 1.173 million voters in the state to elect two Members of the Parliament.
