BJP chief warns of action against culprits

Says news about Sawant being admitted in Manipal Hospital after complaining of chest pain fake

PANJIM: State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Friday warned that action will be taken against those who spread false news, in view of the fake news circulating in social media, about Chief Minister Pramod Sawant being admitted in Manipal Hospital after complaining of chest pain.

Both Tanavade and Sawant at two different media interactions, clarified that the news was not true and that Sawant had gone to the hospital to meet his relative.

While Tanvade pointed out that someone had spotted Sawant in the hospital and went on to spread the wrong information, the Chief Minister emphasised on the need for verification of all information first.

It is to be noted that the police have in the past arrested a person for spreading false news about the health of a Chief Minister.

On a different note, Tanavade stated that earlier on Friday, he had briefed the BJP municipal chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, councillors and corporators of all municipalities in the State via video conference along with Chief Minister Sawant and BJP State General Secretary Satish Dhond about the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the ongoing “Tika Utsav” vaccination programme and organising events under the “Seva Hi Sangathan” initiative.
