BJP condemns Youth Cong for burning Sawaikar’s effigy

PONDA: The President of Ponda BJP unit Shantaram Colvekar has strongly condemned the Goa Youth Congress for burning the effigy of former MP Narendra Sawaikar.

“In democracy, every citizen has a right to express his or her opinion. The Youth Congress should be aware that Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is duly passed by Indian Parliament and is notified as an Act,” Colvekar said.

In a tweet, Sawaikar had deplored the “deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and misguide” the people on the issue of CAA. He had opined that the Supreme Court of India is seized of the matter, as petitions challenging the CAA are pending before it and it would be appropriate to await the Supreme Court ruling in the matter.

“Our country has suffered badly due to politics of appeasement played by Congress and its leaders. CAA is about empowering the persecuted minorities from three countries viz Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan; and for BJP, the national interest is paramount, pervading all other vested interests,” Colvekar said.
