BJP refuted allegations levelled by the Congress and former PWD minister Churchill Alemao that the contract for the Mopa consultancy was awarded by BJP.
Addressing the media BJP spokesperson Wilfred Mesquita said the party is demanding an investigation into awarding the consultancy for the Mopa airport and also a review of all the reports submitted by Louis Berger to the Goa government.
“A committee headed by then Chief Secretary of Goa government which was appointed by then Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had finalized the consultancy firm for Mopa on April 13, 2011, whereas then CM accepted the committee report on April 14, 2011 and within two days, on April 15, 2011, the agreement was signed with Ammann & Whitney,” Mesquita said quoting from government documents.
Mesquita said that the Congress government in 2011-12 had released funds of Rs 6.30 crore of which Rs 3 lakh was paid to Louis Berger.
Demanding a thorough investigation into the matter, BJP also questioned whether Kamat sought and took cabinet approval to award the consultancy contract and raised the point that within two days the contact has been signed.
On Monday State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar had been reluctant to demand an inquiry into the allotment of consultancy work of proposed Mopa airport.
