PANJIM: Protest and walk out by Opposition members during the one-day session of the Legislative Assembly has upset the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) that has equated the instance to “goondagardi”.
“The Opposition created a scene in the House during the one-day session (on Monday). It was a ‘goondagardi’ scene to disrupt the Assembly Session in the temple of democracy. The party condemns this,” party spokesperson Siddharth Kuncalienker told a press conference held at the party head office, on Tuesday.
Claiming that the Opposition consisted of former chief ministers and deputy Chief Ministers, Kuncalienkar stated they did not expect such an “attitude” from them.
“This attitude was not expected,” he said adding that Opposition benches insulted the personalities, whose condolence motion was passed amidst chaos.
The entire Opposition lobby had walked into the Well of the House demanding adjournment motion to discuss COVID-19 pandemic and financial situation of the State.
The party also slammed Congress for lodging a police complaint against the government over COVID-19 death. The former Panjim MLA questioned if it is an attempt to demoralise the doctors and other frontline warriors serving the State during the crisis.
“Are you’ll demoralising doctors with this complaint? You are taking the issues politically, instead, we should come together to fight the virus. This pandemic has come in 100 years. It is not an annual affair. If we are not united, our future generations will not forgive us,” he said.
Party spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik backed the views while applauding Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led government for ‘successfully completing’ the day-long session in the time of COVID crisis.
