PANJIM: Infighting within the BJP has come to the fore with former Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldesai publicly criticising party’s former president Vinay Tendulkar for “falsly accusing” him attacking a person belonging to the Schedule Tribe community.

“How can Tendulkar make baseless allegations against me, a BJP karyakarta for many years, that I am against the ST community and slapped someone (belonging to that community) in my constituency? He has no right to assassinate my character,” Phaldesai told reporters outside chief minister’s official residence where he was accompanied by his workers seeking intervention into the matter.

The former Sanguem MLA also said he is not perturbed by attempts to field Savitri, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, for the upcoming Assembly elections.

“It is not a hindrance to me because whoever does good work in their constituency will be rewarded with the party ticket,” he said. Phaldesai averred that he is a tireless and loyal worker of the BJP.

It is learnt that Tendulkar has been projecting Savitri as BJP’s candidate from Sanguem for the next Assembly elections.
