MARGAO: In an attempt to woo the Muslim minority to rally behind the party, the BJP on Sunday has said it has proposed to the Parrikar government to set up a Minority Development Corporation for the benefit of the minorities in the state.
The party has also promised to set up the Haj Committee office in Margao and urged the minorities to rally behind the party and the party will stand by them.
BJP Goa unit chief Vinay Tendulkar, Goa State Law Commission Chairman Narendra Sawaikar and other party functionaries descended in the housing board this morning to participate in the BJP’s first annual minority celebrations.
“The BJP does not believe in discrimination. Our government is striving hard to take Goa forward on the path of development by taking all people together. We don’t believe in communal politics, but have embarked on the task of providing good governance for the common man,” Tendulkar said.
He said the BJP has strongly recommended to the Parrikar government to set up the minority development Corporation for the development of the minorities. “We have submitted the proposal to Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar and a decision is expected in the ensuing session of the Legislative Assembly”, he said.
Tendulkar said the Minority Development Corporation will help the minorities avail government financial assistance to start new ventures.
In his address, Chairman of Law Commission, Narendra Sawaikar said the BJP has never discriminated against people based on caste and religion. “The party has taken up so many works of the minorities and has not discriminated in respect of any of the welfare schemes, but we have not advertised or sought publicity like other parties”, he said.
BJP minority leader lashed out at the Congress for only using the minorities as their vote bank without looking after their developmental needs. He said the BJP has not discriminated against the community in respect of the implementation of the host of welfare schemes launched by Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar.
