PANJIM: BJP MLAs belonging to the minority community who participated in the lobbying against the government on behalf of the Diocesan Society of Education (DSE) were pulled up by the party on Thursday evening.
Sources said that the BJP brass called for a meeting of the minority legislators at chief minister’s official residence and that the issue was brought to the notice of Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and BJP President Amit Shah.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, questioned the legislators over their conduct especially after they were found to be hobnobbing with Congress legislators.
The BJP legislators who participated in the meeting initially and later withdrew their support to the Church were spared from being reprimanded. This is only Nilesh Cabral.
Others, including Michael lobo, Alina Saldanha, Glen Ticlo and Carlos Almeida were let off with a warning.
Ticlo and Almeida, after attending the first meeting on Wednesday, had later refused to extend the support and had also declined to sign the memorandum submitted to the chief minister.
BJP Catholic legislators along with Congress Catholic MLAs and independents had participated in a meeting called by DSE over permission being denied to some Catholic schools. The meeting was called following directions from the Archbishop.
