PANJIM: Congress has alleged that the heritage city of Panjim has been converted into ruins by the BJP and that the former Panjim MLA (late) Manohar Parrikar did not do anything to save the city from regressing.
Congress said they want to remind the citizens of Panjim about the football ground in Campal which was named after the first chief minister of Goa Dayanand Bandodkar. They pointed out that it has been dug up in the name of development and left in ruins. They further pointed out how the famous Parade Grounds, which once saw important activities has now turned into a garbage site.
Congress stated that in the name of development, BJP and late Manohar Parrikar only carried out cosmetic changes. “The people of Panjim do not want these cosmetic changes. Panjim is still waiting for a garbage treatment plant. Parrikar in April 2013 had assured that the technology for the plant would be finalised by May 2013 and subsequently the plant would be ready. The people of Patto are suffering due to the stink from the garbage sorting facility there,” said a Congress spokesperson.
GPCC Minority Cell president Urfan Mulla alleged that under the smart city project tenders awarded for CCTV cameras indicate a scam and corruption. “L&T, which has been awarded the CCTV camera installation for the Panjim, has also been awarded the works for CCTVs in Mumbai and Pune. In Mumbai the cost of 10000 cameras is around Rs 1200 crores and the Pune project for 10000 cameras is again around Rs 1100. However, in Goa for 480 cameras, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd is paying around Rs 180 crores. While for Mumbai and Pune, the same company is providing the cameras for almost Rs 15000 but the same cameras for Panjim costs around Rs 4 lakhs”, he alleged.
