PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday hit out at the opposition Congress for missing an opportunity to debate the formalin issue.
Addressing the media, Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said that by disrupting the House Congress has failed to capitalise on an opportunity. “The formalin issue is not just of the Congress. It is a concern of every Goan, even we had moved a calling attention but they failed to discuss it and get an assurance from the Chief Minister on the issue,” Cabral said.
Patnekar said that on the first day itself there were questions on fish wherein the MLAs could have discussed the issue. “Besides the calling attention was there. This crucial time could have been utilised for resolving the problem but the Congress thought otherwise,” Patnekar said.
Cabral said that the timing of AICC Observer Chellakumar coming to Goa is not coincidental. “This is a strategy, he has been sent to disrupt the proceedings,” he alleged.
About the Speaker not allowing a discussion on formalin, he said, “The Congress talks about the rule book of the Assembly but unaware of the rules mentioned in it despite of experienced leaders and four former chief ministers.”
