BJP in power despite mining ban

The BJP achieved a thumping victory in Sanguem and Curchorem Cacora but party men have claimed that their campaign has been built on false promises. They have also said that in the long run, it will be the people who will eventually suffer

In spite of the mining ban in the present Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government, people in the mining areas have stood by the party and have voted them to thumping majorities in Sanguem and Curchorem Cacora. Some of the BJP party men and opposition are now claiming that the party has played dirty games and has made false promises to people to get to power. Interestingly, some claim that mining isn’t a factor in towns but development is a factor which people vote for. As Sanguem and Curchorem Cacora is set to be ruled by a BJP Council, Herald tries to brain map the voter and how they have been voting this time around.
BJP supported panels have got elected to the essentially mining dependent Municipalities of Sanguem and Curchorem Cacora. People have voted for the BJP supported candidates in spite of the mining ban which came in the BJP Government’s rule. Herald spoke to the former and the newly elected panel members of the party.
Not just the opposites, the people in the BJP are also critical about the conduct of the election by the MLAs. Anand Prabhudessai of Curchorem said, “The people have been the most unstable and have fallen prey to the false promises of the BJP leaders. BJP leaders have fooled the people 3 times on the issue of resumption of mining. They have revealed the ugliest face of dirty politics and I won’t hesitate to comment even if I am a BJP member as I am with the party but not the men who are calling the shots,” said
Prabhudessai.
