PANJIM: Even though it’s difficult to say who’s the worst affected by the incompetent and corrupt practices of the Pramod Sawant regime, the injustice meted out to the youth of Goa is unprecedented, said Goa Forward party president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, accusing the BJP government of leading educated and bright youngsters to a dead end.

Speaking on the sidelines of his door to door campaign in Fatorda, Vijai took the example of a group of youngsters who’ve joined the GFP recently, disgusted with the corruption and insincerity of the Sawant govt.

“For a Goan student passing out of an institution, all avenues to earn a decent living either from a stable job or from entrepreneurship are effectively blocked”, Sardesai said.

“If you’re not a BJP karyakarta, not friends or family of party leaders, or rich to pay for jobs, you’ve to seek jobs outside the State. This is a tragedy. We’re losing our best minds because of large scale corruption and nepotism”, he lamented.

Vijai was scathing in his criticism of the government’s indifference in nurturing the youth to become rich contributors to the State’s progress. A recent study has shown that unemployment in Goa is second highest in India and Sardesai blamed it on the government’s lack of vision and lopsided policies.

“During elections, they make bombastic statements of creating 10,000 and 50,000 jobs but they’ll never say how, and the fact is, unemployment rate keeps shooting up”, Sardesai said, adding that Sawant is unable to grasp the consequences of joblessness and its impact on law and order and escalation of crime.

“The BJP and its govt dangle attractive schemes to lure the youth but in reality, there’s no sincerity in finding any employment for them at policy level”, he added.

“The GFP has promised 80% job reservation for Goan youth in private sector if they come to power, in line with their ‘Goemkars First’ principle”.

“BJP’s jobs for cash scam has opened the eyes of the Goan youth to the danger they face. Merit has no place, no incentive to better oneself, and the grim prospect of leaving their ageing parents alone at home to seek jobs elsewhere is unsettling a lot of youngsters. We’ll reverse this trend, throw out policies that discriminate Goan youth, and make sure that job opportunities are created and their future is protected.” Sardesai said, emphasising the urgent need to oust the BJP from power.
