PANJIM: In the panchayat results declared on Tuesday, the ruling BJP led supported panels have failed to stay afloat in the Tiswadi Taluka with the Congress led panel flying past the saffron brigade in majority of the panchayats.
Be it Batim, Mandur or St Lawrence village panchayats, the voters took the BJP supported panels to a surprise giving a clean sweep to the Congress supported candidates except for Neura, Goa Velha village panchayats wherein the panel supported by MLA Francis Silveira accepted defeat.
While In Pale-Siridao in St. Andre Constituency panel led by ex-Sarpanch Antonio Afonso won five panchayats out of seven there too narrowing the BJP’s chances.
Further in a startling fact, the candidates supported by BJP minister Pandurang Madkaikar who was earlier in the Congress managed to only win 7 out of nine wards in Carambolim panchayat while totally failing to get a clear mandate in his bastion Cumbharjua and Se Old-Goa village panchayats.
Meanwhile, St Cruz also came as a huge disappointment to the panels floated by the BJP as they faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of the St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes.
