MARGAO: In an interesting political development, the BJP Margao Mandal has claimed that four more councillors have shown willingness to join the party and that the saffron party would soon take charge of the Margao Municipal Council.
Addressing a media briefing at the BJP office here on Monday, the BJP Margao Mandal chief Rupesh Mahatme, along with former minister Babu Ajgaonkar, Sharmad Raiturkar and Chandan Naik, also challenged Margao MLA Digambar

Kamat to resign and join the party, and not indulge in spreading rumours about making an entry into the BJP.
It is pertinent to note that a few days ago, councillor Mahesh Amonkar joined the BJP. “Four more councillors of the Margao Municipality have expressed readiness to join the BJP fold, which will take the number of party Councillors to 13; a majority sufficient to take over the charge of the civic body,” Mahatme said.
He also hinted that those four councillors are likely to make their entry into the party before August 15.
Mahatme further alleged that all the rumours about MLA Kamat joining the BJP are spread by the MLA himself.
“Let him resign from the Congress and join the BJP if he has guts. We will apprise about the party’s stand once he does that,” Mahatme added.
He said that during the MMC elections, seven BJP councillors got elected and thereafter Sweta Lotlikar joined the party, and then came the entry of Mahesh Amonkar, an independent candidate.
However, he refused to disclose the names of the four councillors who are now looking to join the party.
Considering the recent political developments in the civic body, it seems like there are possibilities of a turnover in the municipality at any moment.
