PANJIM: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made clear that BJP will go solo in the upcoming 2022 Assembly elections, State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said the party is open for discussion on alliance with regional parties.

“Our doors are open for discussion with likeminded parties in Goa. Goenkarponn has to be protected. Interested parties can come for discussions with us. However, a final decision regarding alliance will be taken by our Parliamentary Board,” he said.

MGP’s Sudin Dhavalikar had a week back met BJP Goa election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai fuelling speculation about an alliance with the saffron party. The regional party had denied any such move while Fadnavis had claimed party is capable to fight elections on its own but it is also open for an alliance.

On the other hand, Shah while addressing karyakartas sammelan on Thursday said the party will win absolute majority in 2022 elections indicating it is not in favour of alliance.

Meanwhile, on being quizzed about removal of banners of other parties from electricity poles while BJP eventually put their posters there welcoming Shah, Tanavade said the banners defaced public property and were causing obstruction. “It was irritating,” he said.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who was slated to visit the State on Saturday has postponed his trip to first week of November.
