BJP opposes pay parking in Panjim
Wants existing places to be used first

The Bharatiya Janata Party has opposed the Corporation of the City of Panaji move to introduce pay parking in the city saying the corporation should first ensure the use of existing parking places available in the city, which are currently not in use.
The CCP yesterday announced the introduction of pay parking in the city beginning with 18th June Road, market area and Dona Paula jetty.
The Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar who also represents Panjim constituency while addressing a press conference along with BJP supported corporators said CCP is criminally responsible for pay parking problem in the city.
“Remove the bottlenecks to relieve the city of congestion — open up the parking places,“ he demanded while leveling charges of corruption against CCP corporators in the ruling.
“They are attempting to implement pay parking without following proper legal formulation, “ he said adding Panjim unit of the BJP, their corporators and he in the capacity as MLA of Panjim, is totally opposed to pay parking in the city without opening existing parking lots.
He further pointed out a couple structures in the city where he said, parking is blocked even though parking plots were shown in the PDA plans of those structures.
Case in point he said, Tamba House on MG Road where provision for parking was shown in the PDA plan but parking cannot be done there due to inaccessibility to the parking lot, he said adding there are many such cases.
The CCP officer who gave occupancy certificate to the building should be held accountable, he said.
Blaming CCP Mayor Carolina Po for the chaos in the corporation, he also said, CCP has not spent anything on works for the city nevertheless, its officers have tried to put spokes in the works carried out by State Infrastructure Development (GSIDC) and PWD for Panjim city.
Not a single road is maintained by the CCP though it receives maintenance money, he said.

Leveling charges of corruption against CCP corporators who are in majority, Opposition Leader, Manohar Parrikar said, not just a few apples are rotten but the whole tree is, while referring to level of corruption in city corporation.
He was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday here.
He said people should send corrupt corporators home and election is an opportunity to throw out corrupt corporators. The CCP will go for elections in February/March 2011.
But when asked to name the corrupt corporators, he only named Daya Karapurkar as the most corrupt. On being repeatedly questioned about the role of other corporators, he said, “others names will be revealed at the right time.”
Saying pay parking problem is the creation of CCP, he further said, the CCP has not done anything for the city.
