VALPOI, SEPT 21
BJP Spokesperson Govind Parvatkar on Tuesday stated that BJP has short-listed three candidates for Valpoi bye election and the final candidate would be announced by Saturday.
Parvatkar was addressing the press conference at the residence of former Valpoi MLA Narhari Haldankar in the presence of Haldankar, Santosh Haldankar, Mangaldas Gawas (North Goa BJP secretary), D Gaonkar, Narayan Gawas (Valpoi unit BJP president) and Sakaram Gaonkar.
“The three short-listed candidates are Narhari Haldankar, Narayan Gawas (Valpoi unit BJP president) and Santosh Haldankar and the final candidate would be announced by Saturday,” he said.
Speaking further, Parvatkar criticized Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane for boasting and claiming that Rs 200 crore works have been taken up in Valpoi constituency.
“Most of the works are incomplete. Projects like bus stand and market complex, the works of which are yet to start, and only foundation stones are laid,” claimed Parvatkar.
Parvatkar said the BJP would fight the Valpoi bye election on the issue of failure of the Congress government on all fronts.
“Issues in Sattari including land problems and illegal mining have not been solved though promised by Congress in the last election,” said Parvatkar.
“Burning issues like corruption will be exposed by BJP and will win the confidence of Valpoi voters,” he said.
Parvatkar jokingly said that he knew that Vishwajeet Rane will contest from Valpoi. “But at the last moment, we cannot say on which party ticket he will contest, like the last election drama.”
Haldankar alleged that many illegal trees have been cut down in Valpoi in the name of beautification work.
Interestingly, Vishwajeet Rane in his election campaign at various places in Valpoi constituency stated that he will fight the election on three issues, development, employment and women empowerment.
He claimed that he provided 1,600 jobs to the youth from Sattari taluka and Rs 200 crore development works have been undertaken, for which tenders have been passed.
“Some works have been completed and some are underway. For beautification project (Rs 24 crore), Valpoi bus stand (Rs 8.5 crore), Guleli, Sarvorde and Nanora water treatment plant (Rs 18 crore), Valpoi market complex (Rs 6 crore), Bhom Padeli lift irrigation (Rs 14.5 crore), Padeli Guleli bridge (Rs 21 crore) and Valpoi Municipal Council building (Rs 10 crore).
Besides, Rs 50 crore for the new hospital at Valpoi and hot mixing of the road at Nagargao, Sarvorde and Guleli (Rs 45 crore).
During his ongoing election campaign, Rane warned the BJP stating that BJP should not criticise him unless they verify the development works undertaken in Valpoi and advised the BJP to either approach him to know the details of development works done in Valpoi or get the information through the Right to Information Act.
