MARGAO: Announcing the programme to celebrate completion of four years of BJP government at the Centre, party’s South Goa district spokesperson Sharmad Raiturkar has appealed to Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai to pay some attention to the “neglected” Margao constituency.
Members of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha from Salcete and Ponda talukas will hold a two-wheeler rally in Margao on June 1, to celebrate the completion of four years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre.
Addressing media persons, Raiturkar said South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar along with other party leaders will also participate in the rally, which will commence at 4 pm at Lohia Maidan. After going around the town, the rally will culminate at Lohia Maidan.
A recent survey by a national daily indicated that most youth from India want Modi to continue as the Prime Minister and it was decided to hold a youth rally of party members, said Sharmad.
“Digambar Kamat who has been MLA for 25 years despite being a minister for 11 years and chief minister for 5 years could not improve Margao and there is no point in expecting anything from him in future,” he said.
Welcoming the plans to change the KTC bus stand, he said though it falls in Fatorda constituency, the bus terminus being the entrance to Margao would benefit the town.
He said collapsing sewerage, traffic mismanagement, absence of parking lot and constant digging of roads, are some of the problems plaguing Margao, which need to be resolved immediately.
“We can see how Panjim has changed with bypasses to decongest the city but Margao despite having the then as chief minister and MLA saw no change absolutely,” he said adding that Margao badly needed a multi level parking lot and proper traffic management.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has visited Margao whenever they had raised the problems of the town with him he said and added that he has also promised to resolve Margao’s woes.
“As Vijai is a minister in the BJP-led government, we appeal to him to pay some attention to Margao too,” he said adding that the BJP members’ views should be considered when developing Margao.
