MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government both at the Centre and in the State of merely paying lip service to its much touted Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign that was launched with much fanfare on January 22, 2015.
He pointed out that Rs 44.79 lakh released by the Centre in March 2016 to implement the programme in Goa and 90 per cent of that amount has been utilized as on September 2018. However, no additional funds were allotted in 2017 and 2018 as a result of which, he said, the programme would die a natural death in the State.
He wondered why none of the 3 MPs, 14 MLAs and many party leaders, who rush to Delhi at the drop of a hat have not bothered to raise this matter with the Central leadership or the Central government.
Aleixo said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lied to the people of Goa on June 9, 2013 at a meeting at Taleigao saying that Goa has a special place in his heart. Instead, he said, Modi has only foisted everything that is evil for Goa on the State.
“The BJP has only given us CRZ amendment, casinos, nationalization of rivers, cutting of our hills, transferring our comunidade land to private builders and converting Goa into a coal hub,” he said.
