PONDA: All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba on Tuesday asserted that the BJP poses a significant threat to democracy and emphasised the need to vote to safeguard it.
During a meeting held at Ponda bus stand, Lamba criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for focussing on topics like Mangalsutra and Muslims while ignoring inflation, unemployment and atrocities against women. She highlighted the rising unemployment in Goa which has tripled under the current government. She said Congress Nyay Patra aims to address the concerns of the public and farmers, women and labourers.
She promised to double the salaries of Anganwadi and provide minimum support price (MSP) to farmers for their produce.
Lamba also pledged to waive off goods and services tax GST on farm equipment to support the farmers.
She said that according to population, people should get reservation and so a census will be done and alleged that the BJP is against reservation, government institutes are sold and accused the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of being the most corrupt.
Lamba said there is no master plan for Goa and its land is sold to industrialists and also demanded inquiry into Rs 1,000 cr spent on Smart City Panjim. She asked the CM to give a list of jobs given by the government.
She urged the electorate to vote for change and vote for the safety of women
Stating that he would represent the voice of Goans in Parliament, Congress’ South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes on Tuesday criticised the Gujarat model of development and urged the voters to support him on May 7 to protect the future generation.
He highlighted the issues faced by the people, such as high petrol and diesel prices, 18 per cent GST on pencils used by school students.
GFP chief Vijai Sardesai, MLA Venzy Viegas, GPCC president Amit Patkar, Adv Radharao Gracias and others spoke at the meeting.
