margao: Hitting out the agitation carried out by Congress over the high electricity bills, BJP South Goa held a protest against Congress for misguiding the public on the issue.

They burnt effigies of Congress leaders likeCongress Spokesperson Pratima Coutinho, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat. BJP also criticised the Margao MLA for being associated with the protests, which they claim is on basis of falsehoods and misleading.

“The bills before, during and after the lockdown period will show that the rates for power during the lockdown and after are the same, ” said BJP South Goa head Tulsidas Naik while launching a tirade against the Congress leaders.

“It is because of the number of billed days; and also because of the fear that the meter readers coming from outside, may get the infection, that the bills couldn’t be delivered” clarified BJP Curchorem block worker Ashish Karmali.

BJP leaders at the protest also said that the Power Minister Nilesh Cabral had called Girish and the protesting Congress leaders to come and discuss but they had not done so.

“Their demand for a waive-off can’t be agreed as they already know that the revenues are all time low due to pandemic. Though the bad financial status, the government has continued to give all the benefit of schemes, which is also expenditure,” Ashish added.

“It is sad that leaders like  Kamat who was the Chief Minister and also Power Minister is agitating. He has to introspect on what he did to Goa during his tenure,” said Tulsidas Naik.
